What was The Moment That Gave You the Willies? Which artist made you feel Most Out of Touch? Did you have any rooting interests?

I was rooting for Prince. He's playing the game now -- sitting in the audience and even acting as a presenter -- but he still didn't win anything, despite 5 nominations. Maybe he should go back to being distant and enigmatic.

The only rooting interest I had was in hoping that Peter Frampton would win Best Instrumental Album. Not kidding. I have no idea if the award was part of the telecast, but I was pulling for him.
I saw Frampton play two weeks ago at a theatre in Lancaster, PA and he killed. Again, not kidding.
And that new album is pretty good, too.

What is it about the way the voting works that produces the 'winner takes all' effect? It seems common with the Grammys that the same artist wins multiple major awards. I remember it happening with Bonnie Raitt. Without doing research I don't have time for, I can't tell if it's really that common or if the times it happens are just memorable.

The Kinder Gentler Prince of recent years is is a welcome phenomenon. This is the person I couldn't quite remember last week, when Oats asked for other examples along the lines of recent-vintage David Byrne.

I got through most of the show but didn't have computer access. I took a lot of notes, but I'm swamped not least because our own Bill Harley won a Grammy for spoken-word children's album.
Anyway, a few comments:
* I was most of the way through the show and thought, "Wow - actually some things are better than others, but there's been nothing that's been flat-out hide-your-head awful. Are these really the GRAMMYs?"
Then Rascal Flatts came on.
* The first two award-winners of the night got played off. I immediately wroute "MJB is going to win five of these things - by No. 5, her speeches are going to get real interesting." I only saw No. 2 - were there any more?
* Gnarls Barkley and Chris Brown underwhelmed me. Gnarls did what they could to throw a curveball into a lightweight, overplayed hit, but it wasn't enough. I was disappointed he Brown did "Run It." I was hoping for "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)," a song he, Robinson and Richie could've traded off on - contemporary yet classic. I guess the idea was "you're on national TV - do what you do!" but I think most people knew all that. Going toe-to-toe with Smokey and emerging still standing would've shook people up a lot more.
* Almost as much as Smokey's completely batshit-insane-looking eyes.
* String sections are the new robed choirs.
