Video Made The Radio Star

08/29/07 | by sammymaudlin

Don't you think that video made as many radio stars as it did kill them? A-Ha's Take On Me as a prime example? Would Madonna have been so huge if she hadn't so visually proved that she wasn't anything like a virgin? And yes Michael Jackson was already huge with his release of Off The Wall but it sure feels that it was his videos that catapulted him into that rarefied air that has benefited him so well. How many effing times did they, and still do, run the making of Thriller, fercryinowtlowd?!

Follow up:

I probably spent gallons over this video which must have had something to do with the radio success of this coversong. Feel free to Pump It Up for old time sake. I did.

But then again, I might like you better if I hadn't seen your video.

I hated the A-ha video so much I could not stand to hear the song.

Video surely made plenty of radio stars. I once bought an entire Bjork album because I loved one of her videos and thought she was kind of hot. Sans video, the whole affair was nothing to get worked up about.
