• What album did you spin the most during your first Jihad?

I have no experience in this arena, but I can tell that I used to own a split Lp by two anarcho-punk/crust bands called Ottawa and Jihad, respectively. Ottawa were from Michigan and a side project of Current. Their bass player, Justin Labo, eventually moved to San Francisco and joined Film School, though he no longer plays with them. As for Jihad, I think they were from Canada (Toronto, maybe), but I didn't like their side of the split Lp nearly as much as Ottawa's. I wish I still had that record, though.

• What do you sing when you're beheading a capitalist pig?

Again, I have no experience in this arena, but I think The Dicks' "Kill from the Heart" would be absolutely perfect. Given the behavior and attitudes of so many spoiled people like the ones The Dicks railed against in the early '80s, I can't say they weren't justified, though.

• Gwen or Shirley?

Shirley, but man is that a Hobson's choice or what. She at least seem to have some brains and I'll take a second-rate Curve any day of the week over whatever Gwen has become.

• Do you prefer your Replacements with or without Bob Stinson?

I've been listening to them a lot lately as I just finished reading the great oral history that just came out. With that said, I have to go with the Bob years and by a mile, too. While I love the major label stuff, too, it just doesn't have the same attitude, loose-ness and no holds barred abandon.

• Which musician would you most like to see volunteer for a suicide bombing?

Is Scott Stapp available? How about Ted Nugent?

• What bands are you rocking to these days?

Oh tons. As I said before, I've been listening to The Replacements a lot recently, but now I feel like a big Wipers kick is oncoming (np: Over the Edge).

There are quite a few I’d like to see get in line for such a thing, but since it’s obvious that this is how Bono is going to go out one day, I’ll nominate him to avoid any more blood on my hands.

Was "Rock the Casbah" your first exposure to The Clash?

Most likely yes since I was 7 when that song was a huge hit and the only music I heard then was whatever was being played on Top 40 radio at the time and since it was a huge hit, well you do the math. I can also tell you that Combat Rock was the first Lp of theirs that I ever heard. My dad's co-worker Kurt (who had previously turned me onto Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, among others) had this album in his collection along with The Specials' debut, which I also heard around the same time. I must have been either 14 or 15 as this was in the spring or early summer of 1990. I loved both albums and The Specials' album especially captivated me since I'd never heard anything like it before. Come to think of it, I'd never really heard anything like Combat Rock, either, but I didn't REALLY start getting into the Clash until I found an Lp copy of the U.S. version of their 1st album the next year.

I don't know about those folks, but I certainly would! It's simply the best Cat Stevens cover I've ever heard aside from maybe The Koobas' fantastic version of "The First Cut is the Deepest", which obliterates Rod Stewart's version, not to mention the more recent, awful version by Sheryl Crow.

Anyway, I especially like the one on his live album In Concert: The Best of Jimmy Cliff from 1976 where he does it in "rockers" style.
