All-Star Jam: PSA

01/12/08 | by Gerry Todd

This is a public service announcement, with(out) guitar!

Happy Birthday to US. RTH is 1 year old today. For those of you who have materialized after birth, here are a couple of RTH tips for ya.

1. This recurring post, All-Star Jam, is the place for you to say anything you want except for links on how to add length OR girth to my "tool."

2. The "Last Comments" link in the right-side column is a great way to quickly see who has commented on what. It's the first place I go following my read of The Main Stage (front page.)

3. We're a community here and if you want to contribute something, just let us know and we'll set ya up.

4. Many of our posts fall into special categories. You can check out the historical posts in these categories with the links to the right. I highly recommend "User's Guide" and "RTH Glossary" as starting points.

5. Also to the right are Archives, by month, and a search tool.

6. If you get lost you can always click on the banner at the top to return to the Main Stage.

Have fun. Let your freak flag fly. And it's OK to masturbate as long as it's in the privacy of your own room.

I didn't notice the newly updated banner pix this morning. Very cool. At least two things:

1) I cracked up when I saw the Madchester Chick.

2) Had you removed the Lennon shot from Let It Be I'd fly out to your place and personally TAKE THE SITE DOWN!

And one more:

3) Did Linda Rondstadt's upskirt shot carry over?

The Back Office rules!

Fear not Mr. Moderator, all previous images that you've come to love and fear remain in the mix. This includes Linda Rondstadt's upskirt which I know you like to enjoy in the privacy of your own room.

Okay, so Charity and I were walking down Brighton Ave on the way home from a deeply satisfying dumpling-centric dinner from the dim sum place in the neighborhood, and just in front of the Cantonese seafood place, the cover of BLONDE ON BLONDE walks past us. Hair, jacket, scarf, whole thing, down to the hunched-into-the-wind posture. Weirdest fucking thing I've seen in ages.

Good thing my eyesight kicked in before I had too much time to consider this phrase without an essential "l" in the hyphenated segment.

Raise your hand if you ever tried to affect the Blonde on Blonde Look while walking the streets on a winter's day. Yes, my hand is raised. Better yet, in the days when I thought this was a good pose, would have been the earlier Dylan cover shot: The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

Oh, I would totally rather be Mr. Freewheelin' than Mr. Blonde. No question. For one thing, Charity makes an excellent Suze Rotolo.

I have a scarf that would do in a pinch for The Look -- I was wearing it this evening, in fact -- but having spent a hefty chunk of my young life in Colorado, I favor winter coats that are far too puffy and brightly colored to pull off the complete BOB, and my one trenchcoat is more Murrow in the Blitz than Zimmy in the Village.

FIRST TIME HERE? Rock Town Hall is a place to discuss - and debate - self-important topics in the world of rock 'n roll as we know it, love it, and hate it. Overlooked gems, overrated albums, and sideburns are always open for discussion. Lurk and enjoy the show, or better yet REGISTER and play along. The only requirement is that you love the Rock. The USER'S GUIDE, has the low down on how to jump in. Your knowledge level is unimportant. In the mix of truth tellers, true believers, wiseacres, blowhards, and plainspoken rock fans, whatever nerdiness, earnestness, silliness, and passion you bring to the table will find a place. If you get lost, you can always click the Rock Town Hall banner at the top to return to the MAIN STAGE.
