At first I thought he was cutting one, but there's a trace of mischief in his eyes, which make me think he's simply suppressing a giggle over an old joke with a friend he's spotted in the crowd. I imagine it's an old bandmate from high school days. He probably made some gesture that indicated a distinctive playing style of a guy from another band way back when. Or something like that.

looks like some zero gravity situation and maybe a slight loss of cabin pressure as well.

It looks like he just remembered that he left his car lights on or forgot to pick up the dry cleaning for the Mrs.

He's thinking -- I don't care if I get free Chevies for life, even I'm sick to death of this 'Our Country' song.

Thinks:

"Those who see the church having an integrated role with the state argue that by being formally involved, especially at higher leveles, such as state occasions, senior clerics have at least some influence on policy. those that take that 'conservative' line would be regarded as 'establishmentarians'.

"Hold on a sec, gotta give the ladies sumthin' to look at... Come on, John, shake it!

"A downside is that senior bishops, the arch-bishops, are in theory an appointment under royal prerogative and thus in effect chosen by the government exercising that prerogative power on behalf of 'the crown'. In practice, the church only puts forward candidates who merit the post and government interference does not seem substantial, but to some, it is an anathema.

"Now, do I shout and pump my fist here, or is this where the backup singers do the twirl?

"Now, where was I? Oh, yeah: those who believe that the church is tainted by its association with government and should distance itself to make it more inclined to criticism and free the church of the nominal appointments system are the 'disestablishmentarians'. Thus - in antipathy to that notion, those who are against the idea of actively promoting complete separation of church and state are 'antidisestablishmentarians' and their belief is 'antidisestablishmentarianism.'

"WHOOOOOO!"

Is "turtle-headin'" the same thing as "prairie-doggin'"?

I'd like to set up a dedicated thread to this issue!

He just noticed that he could really use another wipe because he's getting itchy back there and there's over an hour to go before he can walk off and clean things up.

Either that, or he just realized he walked out onto David Bowie's Stage era set and he doesn't know any of the songs.

I'm not familiar with the term "prairie-doggin'," but sammy made me think of Walt "No-Neck" Williams.

Johnny Damon is thinking if Steinbrenner hadn't made me shave my beard, I wouldn't look so much like Melloncamp now. And carrying this guitar around isn't helping any.

After granting his songs for use in Pamprin commercials, John takes his nickname "John Menstralcramp" one step further.

Thank you all for participating. Like Alexmagic, I too thought of Johnny Cougar's classic SCTV appearance. (Was Seger ever that funny? I think not!) I can't believe HBV, Sammymaudlin and others didn't pick up on that. Clearly, the scatological implications of this photo captivated most Townspersons. I can hardly blame you.

I also liked 2000 Man's scenario of the Bowie concert. Reminded me of various situations where Elmer Fudd would accidentally find himself unwittingly on-stage.

I resent that, Oats! Look back on my post; you'll see it was by far the least scatological of the bunch. I assumed far more of Johnny Cougar's laser on-stage focus, intelligence, and ability to entertain.

Sincerely,

HVB

*I* immediately discounted the scatological implications - acknowledged them, yes, but walked on by. If anyone should feel resentful it's me!

I totally forgot about a Cougar appearance on SCTV. That would make at least 2 SCTV refs in one day, wouldn't it? Is that the 27th time this has ever happened?
