I don't know what to make of this.

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Actress Scarlett Johansson says Tom Waits has given the thumbs-up to her debut album, which features covers of 10 tunes written by the notoriously persnickety musician.

"Anywhere I Lay My Head" will be released May 20 via Atco/Rhino. David Bowie, whom Johansson met a party just prior to beginning work on the album, lends his distinctive vocals to the tracks "Falling Down" and "Fannin' Street," while Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of the band Celebration contribute throughout. The album was produced by Dave Sitek of the New York rock band TV On The Radio.

Can anyone imagine a scenario in which a straight male musician turned down the opportunity to contribute to this album?

if she can sing, which I'm sure she can, this is gonna be a great record.

If it's released in a gatefold vinyl edition with a lot of good shots of the artist, which I can't see why it wouldn't be, this is gonna be a great record.

Yes - a married straight male with a jealous wife!

As long as her cousin David isn't involved, I could buy this.

Dude, with a little explanation, what loving, jealous wife would stand in the way of her man's art? I know how much your wife, for instance, respects your ability to arrange drums. If pitched properly, I'm certain she would not stand in the way of your aiding Ms. Johansson's musical progress.

Holly Cole recorded an excellent album of Wait's covers back in 1995 that still holds up. Is Scarlett up for such comparisons? Doubtful, but it's a good test to see if she's capable of casting worthwhile collaborators.

But what do I know? I was advising Tracy Lords during her recording career.
