Mod is disqualified on at least the ones that we discussed.

That's cool, but my memory is so bad I can't recall any but the last one. This is going to be hard! I need to get my "Name that incidental note" challenge ready. Seriously, I've got a kick-ass incidental note.

There's one in there that we didn't discuss that I'm counting on you, and doubtfully anyone else, to get.

All right, I'll try to focus on that one grunt and check back in after I've witness the likely awesome grunt-spotting skills of our Townspeople.

There are two or three more in here that are killing me, I'm so close to remembering them -- but here are a few that I got right away:

1. With A Girl Like You, The Troggs
2.
3. S.K.O.O.B.Y.D.O.O., the Archies
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12. Won't Get Fooled Again, The Who

...thought you'd stump us with that Archies number, didn't you?

Comment from: sammymaudlin [Member]
Duuuuuuude. I can't believe you got that Archies tune within the half-hour that I put this up. That was my ace-in-the-hole. In all honesty both you and I should be ashamed for having knowledge of this song.

if i'm counting correctly, 7 is "I can't Quit You Babe".

I may have gotten the number wrong (hoist by his own petard!), but is that snare roll and "whoooo!" from BTO? Maybe "Roll On Down the Highway"?
04/22/08 @ 09:31
Comment from: sammymaudlin [Member]
No BTO. Sorry. alexmagic is in for #5 except that it's actually #6 and saturnismine is in for #7:

Is 11 the Sonics? If so, it's a lot to ask of us to parse out exactly which scream it is but I'll go with Psycho.

Strychnine?

I have to say this quiz is driving me nuts. I thought I heard Groove Me but I thnk that might be the American Woman clip. And that Hammond organ right before the Sonics is bugging the crap out of me.
04/22/08 @ 14:28
Comment from: alexmagic [Member] Email
Yeah, that has to be Strychnine. Can't believe I didn't get that.

TWO! for andyr. Nice on the Pere Ubu. I was figuring only Mr. Mod would nail that one but you just totally faced him.

Comment from: hrrundivbakshi [Member] Email
The (new) first track is "High School" by the MC5.
04/23/08 @ 09:29
Comment from: hrrundivbakshi [Member] Email
I'm guessing the big "whooooo!" is from a Black Oak Arkansas tune, but I couldn't tell you which one. I may be a dyed-in-the-wool Dandy-ist as far as my performance philosophy is concerned, but I'm not idiotic enough to pay money for any of their albums!
04/23/08 @ 09:36
Comment from: Mr. Moderator [Member]
I agreed to lay low on this, since Sammy and I had discussed a few of these grunts in advance. However, I feel safe in sharing now that I knew all the ones you've guessed so far, even those I hadn't discussed with Sammy. I got them on the first listen, of course, but you had to work harder. Nice work. These last 5 are tricky, even for an expert like me.

I too think the first track is something from Rob Tyner and MC5.

The second one sounds like a bong hit. It better not be the intro to "Instant Woody". I know the Beastie Boys have a bong hit sound on Paul's Boutique. Is it that song?

Is the third one "American Band"?

Is the fourth one from Pink Floyd, maybe "Comfortably Numb"?

The fifth one is really familiar, but I'm not even able to guess at the genre!

Tough!

And I was lying about knowing all the ones you've already guessed. I got "Won't Get Fooled Again".
04/23/08 @ 09:42
Comment from: hrrundivbakshi [Member] Email
Yeah, that's "We're an American Band" for sure. Dang! Why didn't *I* get that one?!
04/23/08 @ 09:48
Comment from: sammymaudlin [Member]
hrrundi is in with the MC5 but sadly that's it even though I was counting on him for the new #3. And Mod I'm extra ashamed. I'm sorry man. Not only did we discuss the new #2 ("bong hit") but your own band borrowed the sound. I will say that Mod has the band for the new #4 but not the tune.

Folks- this is just downright embarrassing.

Is the bong hit sound from "Loose" or some other Funhouse song? I vaguely recall our conversation, but there is a long-term price to pay for having the ability to so readily identify that sound!
04/23/08 @ 10:58
Comment from: sammymaudlin [Member]
Yes from FUN HOUSE. No not Loose. I would accept your rationale for not knowing except that I, for a fact, know that I could play any 1/4 note from Sweet Jane and not only would you identify it but you'd know which version it is from. I'm having trouble reconciling this.

Also, at the risk of incurring your wrath, I have to Pince Nez you: The album title Fun House is two words.

I do this for you out of love man. I know you know that.
