Count me as a fan of that album, especially Alimony. What a great rickety groove.

Ry Cooder is one of my favorite guitarists.

Mod, do you have Paradise and Lunch? His albums are woefully uneven but Paradise and Lunch is one of those rare perfect albums.

I know that didn't answer the question but I don't think I'm introspective enough to do so.

I don't think I've ever had his debut, but I'll second PARADISE AND LUNCH ('74, great Earl Hines duet) and BOOMER'S STORY ('72, sublime slide instrumental on "Dark Side of the Street"). I think he goes south quick from their, although I often like his soundtracks and exotic music forays.

I don't know if I ever would have liked the Cult's "Rain" except that the production once sounded profound when I heard it as a dazzled rube twenty-year old at the Cat Club in New York City.

I saw this Ry Cooder album on vinyl in a second-hand shop last week and had a moment of wonder...Would I take this home? I liked what I saw mostly until I got down to Dark Is The Night and then I wondered, will I ever be down enough to want to hear this? Ed, I think you have done the spiritual drycleaning for me. Maybe I can nip back, pick it up and just enjoy. Thanks!

I've always liked Ry's "Bop 'til You Drop" album -- and "Chavez Ravine" is patchily excellent.

Can't think of an answer to your probing mood-related question. I do know that I go off rock and roll entirely when I'm feeling down or anxious about something.
