Mom!

Looking back over a week in which we lost Captain Beefheart and relocated our old friend Jimbo… Let’s just rock, shall we?

Boy, that was an odd show! I don’t know what I’m gonna do about Captain Beefheart – that song was real weird and hard to keep involved in for me. I might like it if I keep listening to it, but it’s pretty strange.

  2. 2K, perhaps “Dirty Blue Gene” isn’t for everybody:) I’m sure Captain Beefheart isn’t for everybody, but if you’re ever curious about him, his first album, Safe As Milk is a great ’60s garage record. I think Clear Spot, from ’74 or so (?) is pretty accessible too, as are parts of The Spotlight Kid. Anything after that gets way into “strange” territory, but there’s an internal logic to it that, if we could take a car ride together, I bet I could point out within 8 songs.

Do you know Radio Birdman, the band that did the song I kicked this set off with? I could see you digging that band over the course of an album.

I think someone here said my next step should be Clear Spot, I just haven’t gotten around to it. Radio Birdman I know. I like that kind of stuff, but I think I only have some of their songs from VA compilations and stuff. Just never got around to buying any of their albums. Little Steven played songs from Zeno Beach a lot, and I was surprised how good that was, considering how long it had been since they were around.
