  1. Are you as psyched as we are? Great turnout here in my yard!

  2. We’re listening to the “pre-show,” and Styx’s “Grand Illusion” is playing. Bad news for the Townsman who played “Too Much Time on My Hands!”

  3. hrrundivbakshi

WTF?! “Peaches en Regalia” at 8:57? Not a good sign!

  4. hrrundivbakshi

“Band On the Run”! We already have a winner! Shit! Hopefully the first of many.

  5. The block has kicked off with McCartney and Wings’ “Band on the Run,” which dickbonanza selected!!! The man is guaranteed a share of the pot!

  6. Last-minute live bets included Fly Like an Eagle, Love Her Madly, Do You Feel Like I Do, My Sharona, Bad Company (the song), Turn me on again, Hurts So Good, I’m Your Captain, Bohemian Rhap, Allmans BOX, Eagles, BOX, Hotel Cali, LA Woman, and SOme Kind of WOnderful

  7. Wrong Doors,. Sorry, kids.

  8. ladymisskirroyale

Am listening over here in Cali for some pre-dinner showtime. So far, this Philly station has very different programming from our CA classic rock stations.

  9. andyr asked if there can be ref’s time (as in soccer) because of RayMan’s extened solo. Sorry.

  10. hrrundivbakshi

I’m on andyr’s team here. This is excruciating!

  11. hrrundivbakshi

    Aaargh!

  12. DICKBONANZA IS OFFICIALLY OUR ROCK PSYCHIC! Take that, HVB!

  13. hrrundivbakshi

Mod, didn’t you suggest somebody play the Toto sleeper card?

  14. I smell a 50’s game show fix in the works! THere’s no way that is possible!”

    Chicken

  15. hrrundivbakshi

God, I have a soft spot for this song. A true guilty pleasure for me. NOT THAT I PICKED IT!

  16. hrrundivbakshi

Waitaminnit! Somebody picked this song! But who?

  17. hrrundivbakshi

Seven minutes left in this classic rock block! Move on already!

  18. HVB, come on, man! How could you have missed this Trilogy selection (ZZ Top, Sharp Dressed Man).

  19. hrrundivbakshi

Aaaargh! Salt in my wounds! How can I not have picked something by the Zeez?!

  20. hrrundivbakshi

Will the last song in the 20-minute segment be “Sharp Dressed man”? Will the 20-minute block be extended for flagrant organ solo foul reasons?

  21. hrrundivbakshi

Ditch the lengthy guitar solo outro, Mr. DJ!

  22. Seconds remain: YES, Fleetwood Mac, but I don’t think anyone had this song. Nope, they didn’t.

Thanks for playing. dickbonanza is AWESOME.

  23. hrrundivbakshi

NOOOOOOOO! My psychic rock powers have been tested and found wanting!

  24. hrrundivbakshi

    Did db pick both winners?

  25. hrrundivbakshi

If so, that would be pretty unbelievable!

  26. What was funny about that was that they only played that song on the web stream. On the actual radio station (we were listening to our hometown Classic Rock station, remember) it was a commercial break. We had to switch to the web stream for a few minutes when the station suddenly went out on the ancient boom box in my yard, at about 8:50. It was near chaos. There were thoughts that 2000 Man hacked into WMGK’s broadcast with a plan to broadcast side 3 of Exile. Finally, at 8:57, Sethro got the radio station working again.

  27. It was winner extraordinaire dickbonanza who predicted “Too Much Time on My Hands.” The guy was just getting warmed up.

  28. Great talking to you, ladymiss. (She actually called into the party.) I was sorry I wasn’t as chatty as I can be. It was a madhouse during the rock block.

  29. I don’t know if I did. When dickbonanza sent in his pick I wrote back, “If you win, we lose.” He wrote back something to the effect of “Oh, I lose too.” The man said he felt it all week.

I’m still disappointed that my side action on “Spirit in the Sky” (my neighbor was giving 50-1 odds) didn’t pan out.

  30. Yes, but about 25 of us witnessed him predicting 2 songs before our eyes. This will be something we’ll be talking about years from now in the Halls of Rock.

  31. Finally on this subject – and man am I beat – the turnout, both live and from afar, to help a Townsbrother in need is something beyond words. Sammy will be helped by our efforts, and the way people pitched in and rallied behind someone in our community makes all the times I’ve attempted to dispel you of your belief in an overrated album worthwhile. Seriously, thanks for taking your fun as seriously as you do.

  32. alexmagic

In the cold light of the morning, I am compelled to report that I witnessed two, possibly three (there was a damning head nod), Townspeople in an exchange that amounted to “This was pretty good, for Toto” when Hold The Line made it’s shocking appearance. I’ll eliminate cdm and kilroy, but leave everyone else in attendance on the table as suspects.

Don’t be surprised by if this leads to a “Critical Upgrade: Toto” thread in the next week.

  33. First, major thanks and props to the Mod household for hosting a great time in support of Sammy. The sausages flowed like wine, and the wine flowed, well, like wine. If eating sausages created goodwill, then I built a mountain of it.

Can a backyard night screening of Two Lane Blacktop be in the possible future? Only Dick Bonanza sees the future clearly enough to predict!

And finally, AlexMagic, there is a certain honor code at RTH similar to catching a fellow private school classmate cheating on an exam. You are compelled to report the violation, or you are equally culpable in the offense.

If you encountered apologists for Toto’s Hold the Line last night, you must reveal the names, or you are just as guilty. It’s just as big a crime to protect those people.

  34. Speaking of the compassionate eating of sausages, did anyone keep count of E. Pluribus Gergely’s intake? He talked a good game, but 2 hours into the sausagefest I had to twist his arm to get him to split a particularly perfectly burnt sausage.

  35. Had a great time last night! Excellent job on the sausages by Mr. Moderator. And excellent idea for a contest by HVB.

Correctly predicting two of the tunes in the rock block may just be the highlight of my life. My girlfriend is now calling me the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” My guitar playing and songwriting were definitely not going to win me that title.

  36. That was a lot of fun. I know some of the folks on this list personally but there are many more with whom I interact on a weekly or even daily basis and I have no idea what they look like. So it was particularly nice to finally meet some of my cyber heroes in person: alexmagic, oats and, of course, E Pluribus Gergely. Now if we can only convince misterioso and ladymiss and bigsteve and cherguevara and jungleland, etc to make the trip out for the next one.

Thank to the Mod Family for the heaping helping of their hospitality. I wish I hadn’t eaten before hand because from the looks of it, the Mod really knows his way around a wiener.

  37. And what happened to hrrundivbakshi? I thought he was coming up. Disappointing!

  38. For the limited time I observed Plurbs’ sausage consumption, I would label his volume intake as “lady-like” or maybe “childish”.

  39. A business trip took him across the country – even out of the country, I believe. He was really bummed he couldn’t be with us, but as you know, he was a big part in making this happen.

  40. BTW, if anyone took pictures can you let me know? We didn’t think to snap a single shot, which is par for the course in our household.

  41. misterioso

    That is somewhat disillusioning…

  42. misterioso

cdm, thanks for your kind words. Woulda been nice to be there!

  43. We had a great time for a great cause last night. Mr. Mod, thanks for hosting so excellently. I am truly in awe of Dick Bonzana’s classic-rock skills.

  44. Hi guys, sorry I wasn’t there as well, though I was going to be. Late Saturday afternoon, though, I started getting this raging headache and felt all out of sorts. I was hoping it would all go away and that I could show up later in the evening, but I was down for the count. My kiddo wound up having a fever and some other funky symptoms, so who knows what it was that was ailing us.

Anyway, glad to hear it was a good time and that we got a good amount of cash in for the cause. Hopefully I’ll get to see you all at some get together in the future.

  45. Hopefully that will happen because at one point E Pluribus Gergely and I were discussing Jungleland’s somewhat perplexing musical tastes and admiring the extent to which he has the courage of his convictions. I mentioned to Gergely that while your tastes aren’t the same as Jungleland’s, they are often just as puzzling, and you too, are similarly self possessed in voicing them. I would have loved to have seen EPG try to wrap his head around your defense of Billy Joel for instance.

  46. Oh, and sorry to hear about the illness. I hope everyone is doing better.

  47. I was looking forward to seeing you, konajinx. Hope you and your kid are feeling better.
