I hate to post this on the heels of the, arguably, new high water mark set by KingEd and Mr. Mod. Their interview and backstage hang with Nick Lowe was indeed impressive and I don’t want to detract from that in any way. However I do want to say that I, sammymaudlin, have been fortunate to top even that mountain top.

Last night, Ms. Maudlin and I went to a local-ish fair, Conejo Valley Days, to watch and dance to a local Fleetwood Mac tribute band called Belladonna, http://www.belladonna-music.com. Note that they, and rightly so, said to beware of http://www.belladonna.com. Don’t shoot the messenger. Here they are making lovin’ fun:

Good and fine. They were fun as usual. BUT the band that opened for them was far, far more. They were so much more than I, or you, could possibly have hoped for. That I was able to glimpse them at a place like this is beyond comprehension. And “no,” I was not able to interview them. And “no,” I was not able to hang backstage with them. But no matter, as who they are and that I was within eye-shot of them is enough to humbly put me at the pinnacle of the RTH mountain top. I should note that, due to my respect for them I chose not to make eye contact and rather looked nervously to the side when the opportunity presented itself. For the record, I did not drink a drop, yet the shear power of their performance impacted me severely when the show was over:

  1. Adrian Zmed’s wikipedia entry shows that these are indeed his sons. Forget interviews with the likes of Nick Lowe, I can’t believe you didn’t forge an opportunity to interview these two and, could it have been possible, maybe lead to an interview with AZ himself.

I know Mr. Mod is in that exclusive club that I belong to, The T,J, Hooker Fan Club? Sammy, are you a member as well?

  2. Et tu, Al? In college Sammy and I bonded over Hooker as much as we did music. He owns the box set in dvd and has been known to travel with it.

  3. What box set?!?! I only know of (and own) the Complete Season 1 & 2. I wasn’t aware the other seasons were released. Tell me more.

If ever there was something for which the phrase “it’s so bad, it’s good” holds true, it’s TJ Hooker. The acting – by the regulars, guest stars, cameos – is uniformly terrible and the plots were laughable. Put it all together and it’s great.

  4. Maybe that’s what he has, the Complete Seasons 1 & 2. A cable station, HDNET (?), has been running the show nightly the last 6 months or so. All that you mention about the show’s strengths still holds up.

  5. I’m thrilled to learn of the rocking of the sons of Officer Vince Romano, but am disappointed we have no iphone proof of this event. Sometimes a reporter has to overcome their understandable infatuation and awe to get the story. Especially when seeing that the Janks band link has already been suspended. I wanted to send them a pitch about launching a TV show of 2 brothers that are cops during the day, and rock stars at night. Possible title: Wanted: Zmed or Alive. Still working on that.

  6. Great premise for a show and an even better title!

Now, I don’t have a band but there appear to be many RThers who do. One should immediately consider changing the name of their band to “The Sons Of Adrian Zmed”. Not sure why the The Janks are The Janks as opposed to that name but it’s an even better name for a band that is Zmedless

I’ve got the “Complete First and Secons Seasons”, which comes with the original TV promos for 24 episodes. The promos alone are worth the price.

I warmly greet you, al, as a fellow brother and supporter of Thomas Jefferson Hooker and the renowned LCPD.

Yo Chick. “Wanted: Zmed or Alive” is beyond brilliant. I shed a tear for what could be.

I do find it oddly coincidental that the thejanksmusic.com site was suspended within a day of this post going up…

  9. It gets better. Adrian Zmed stars on the show as the brother’s police captain, band manager, and their FATHER!

    USA would greenlight this tomorrow.

  10. Above all, the Sons of Zmed did not want to ride on their father’s coattails. They went through great lengths to hide their heritage through use of the Janks name. You exposed them. They had to move on. I’m sure a new URL with a new band name was up within minutes.

  11. Any way we can work Whorewolf into the plot?

  12. sammymaudlin

    Wait! Whaaaaaat?! …

    Their FATHER!!! No way!!!!!!!

  13. I think Belladonna may played a whorewolf in one of her delightful romps…you guys may want to consider litigation.

  14. I really wanted to post Deke Dickerson’s instrumental tribute, “T.J. Tuck & Roll”, here, but I can’t find it on the YousTube.
