They may indeed be the grooviest ever, but let&#8217;s consider whether any set of groovy backing vocalists has come close, especially, for purposes of this discussion, groovy hippie backing vocalists.<\/p>\n<p>The sight of the half-dozen long-haired, bare-footed, overalls-wearing backing vocalists primed at the <strong>26-second mark<\/strong> of the following\u00a0<strong>Joe Cocker<\/strong>\u00a0live take on &#8220;The Letter&#8221; must have been a great inspiration to 1960s-era choir kids gone to pot.<!--nextpage--><\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VFHA15B8iNI?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>Then there are <strong>The Honkettes<\/strong>, as the backing singers for <strong>Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/strong> were unofficially known. Those flowing, floral dresses over Danskins had no business in the churches these ladies were probably forced to attend as girls. Thank god for the devil&#8217;s music!
