Although we were not sure how our suggestions would be arbitrated, our faith in the process of discussion and dissent probably implied our reaching concensus. It was not that easy.<br \/>\n<!--nextpage--><br \/><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oVC7zSXa27A?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><br \/>\nFollowing some chronologic disqualifications and a few cases made for more underground or overlooked artists that fell on deaf ears, we were left with 7 or 8 main contenders for the Top 5 spots: Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, The Coasters, and to a lesser extent Carl Perkins.<br \/><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tw-ZBookLRM?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We should have known better. An authority no less than <strong>The Monkees<\/strong> tried to settle perhaps the most controversial battle among the contenders. Check out the following clip, if there&#8217;s ever been any question how tightly the competition is stacked among <strong>&#8217;50s piano-playing legends<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<!--nextpage--><br \/><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/apReoCd1yaU?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After minutes of internal debate, I arrived at the conclusion that there was only one way for us to determine Rock Town Hall&#8217;s Top 5 Rock &#8216;n Roll Artists of the &#8217;50s: to tally the suggestions by weighted values depending on each Townsperson&#8217;s ranking. A first place vote was worth 5 points, a second place vote was worth 4 points, and so forth, down to a fifth place vote being worth 1 point.
