{"id":15553,"date":"2012-09-17T10:00:16","date_gmt":"2012-09-17T14:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/?p=15553"},"modified":"2012-09-17T07:23:49","modified_gmt":"2012-09-17T11:23:49","slug":"rth-glossary-hot-dogging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/rth-glossary-hot-dogging\/","title":{"rendered":"RTH Glossary: \u201cHot-Dogging\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/if-you-cant-say-anything-nice-about-robin-mcnamara\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>If You Can\u2019t Say Anything Nice<\/em><\/a> post<strong> Mr. Moderator<\/strong> submitted a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/if-you-cant-say-anything-nice-about-robin-mcnamara\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> that featured aging pop fluffer<strong> Robin McNamara<\/strong> accompanied by two very fine back-up dancers on either side. What immediately came to mind is, this guy is literally <strong><em>\u201cHot-Dogging.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Yes, I know the term is rather sophomoric but I think it aptly describes a man inserting himself between two backup singers. This is very useful ploy to prop up a singer lacking in talent, such as <strong>Mr. McNamara<\/strong>; however, some of our heroes have used it to class things up a bit. Case in point is <strong>David <\/strong><strong>Bowie<\/strong> in the following clip from Live Aid. Not only is the front line all female (singers and saxophonist), he goes for full<em> hot-dogging<\/em> at the 1:50 mark.<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AmCcjJq4XBc?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>In my last band we had a song called<em> \u201cAll Girl Band,\u201d<\/em> which told the story of a guy forming an all-female backup band, presumably to make him look like a ladies man. While this may seem a little sexist it has brought success to <strong>The Cramps<\/strong> and, errr,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z0sZBFvTjRw\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Orlando.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15554\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-15554\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/rth-glossary-hot-dogging\/the-cramps\/\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15554\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15554 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/the-cramps-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/the-cramps-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/the-cramps.jpg 582w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15554\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hot-dogging!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Are there any other examples of h<em>ot-dogging<\/em> you would like to submit?
