This guy found a niche and worked it all the way to inner Earth.<\/p>\n<p>After a bit of success with this novelty song:<\/p>\n<p>TczAnMDAp2w]<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Chubby, born Ernest Evans, recorded <em>The Twist<\/em> in 1960.  (I think we all know how that goes.)  But what you might not know is that it was actually a cover of a B-side from <strong>Hank Ballard &amp; the Midnighters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It hit #1 in 1960 and stayed on the charts for four months.  In 1961 it hit #1 again, according to Allmusic being the only song to hit #1 twice with a year or more separation.  <\/p>\n<p>Chubby, or someone close to him, recognized an opportunity.  He hit #1 again in &#8217;61 with a new dance song, <em>The Pony<\/em>.  And then latter that year again with <em>Let&#8217;s Twist Again<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Reminds me of that Simpson&#8217;s parody of <strong>Bobby McFerrin<\/strong> doing &#8220;I&#8217;m Worried, Need Money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He then hit with <em>The Fly<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>-PnjHOzAnPw]<\/p>\n<p>And then with <em>Limbo Rock<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>mIh1p6VkeF8]<\/p>\n<p>Again with something called &#8220;Slow Twistin&#8221; which I&#8217;m too lazy to dig up.<\/p>\n<p>Then the dude made movies!<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nTwist Around the Clock<\/em> <\/p>\n<p>And<\/p>\n<p><em>Don&#8217;t Knock the Twist<\/em><br \/>\nmLzm6ALoevA]<\/p>\n<p>He returned to the charts again in 1988 with <strong>The Fat Boys<\/strong> cover of&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>dNT-sc1ymEM]<\/p>\n<p>This guy has to be the undisputed king of rock dance songs.  Yes?  <em>The Twist<\/em>, with the possible exception of <strong>Van McCoy&#8217;s<\/strong> <em>The Hustle<\/em> or that <strong>Urban Cowboy<\/strong> line dance song thing. <\/p>\n<p>Has anyone else mined a niche so successfully?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>K5PqydMA1kA] You gotta hand it to Chubby Checker.
