We skipped some performances, like <strong>Seals and Crofts<\/strong>, and concentrated on rocking artists that might provide insights into cool drum fills and rock faces. Along with the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/2009\/03\/20\/what-s-lemgreallyl-emg-weird-about-this\">Edgar Winter Band<\/a><\/strong> performance that Townspeople are currently analyzing, highlights for discussion included <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/2008\/03\/28\/cat_power_is_the_new_linda_rondstadt\">Linda Rondstadt<\/a><\/strong> doing &#8220;You&#8217;re No Good,&#8221; which we&#8217;ve discussed previously in the Halls of Rock; <strong>The Guess Who<\/strong> struggling mightily to perform &#8220;American Woman,&#8221; the custom-made lucite drums of Billy Preston&#8217;s drummer; a busty <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/index.php\/2009\/02\/22\/white-stripes-will-t-rex\">Marc Bolan and T.Rex<\/a>, all coked out of their minds; and a smokin&#8217; hot Debbie Harry and Clem Burke with <strong>Blondie<\/strong>, the two of them providing all the heavy lifting in that band, as was always the case. <\/p>\n<p>Some day we may have to analyze the Guess Who performance separately. Both <strong>Burton Cummings<\/strong> and the porn soloing faces of the lead guitarist are rich in talking points.<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8_3yeQeBOAI?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p><em>But that&#8217;s not the moment you&#8217;ve been waiting for; that&#8217;s not the single song that marked all that could possibly suck in the second half of the &#8217;70s.<\/em> <\/p>\n<p>As we scrolled through the menu on these DVDs, I suggested we skip the following band, but Sethro thought there might be something there. There surely was something there. <\/p>\n<p>Before we view this stunning clip, you might recall Townsman cdm&#8217;s recent thoughts on Edgar Winter&#8217;s &#8220;Frankenstein&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 70&#8217;s are a contender for the most interesting decade in rock in my book, but that song is a catalog of everything bad about 70s rock. (pop-prog leanings, cheesy synths, self-indulgence manifesting itself in a very uninteresting way, songs that go on too long, albinos, etc)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As I said to him, he makes a lot of sense, but I thought there was one song that &#8211; short of albinoism &#8211; covered all that cdm mentioned and then some, failing to deliver in any way on just about any of the &#8220;leanings&#8221; and indulgences he outlined. <em>I would argue that this is the heart of darkness moment foreshadowing the worst of &#8217;70s rock:<\/em><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZiA8AVpf6M4?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I watched two DVDs of Midnight Special performances with Townsman Sethro.
