Here\u2019s Dylan doing \u201cOnce Upon A Time\u201d at a Tony Bennett 90th birthday tribute. Dylan does it far better than Bennett, as does Sinatra.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bob Dylan - Once Upon A Time - Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet to Come - Dec 20, 2016\" width=\"695\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R8-F4LdptJw?feature=oembed&amp;wmode=opaque\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I would have mentioned the <strong>Len Price 3<\/strong>, one of my favorite \u201cnew\u201d bands of the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>I would have raved about <strong>Scorsese<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Rolling Thunder Review<\/em> \u201cdocumentary.\u201d Personally, I love the phony bits in this; it\u2019s so Dylanesque I\u2019m surprised he hasn\u2019t thought of it before. Hmmm? And you have to love the film if only for the performance of \u201cIsis,\u201d which immediately joins 1966 and the first Letterman performance as the best Dylan live performances.<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of Dylan, <strong>Robbie Fulks<\/strong>\u2019 album <em>16<\/em>, a cover of Dylan\u2019s <em>Street Legal<\/em>, is as great a Dylan cover set as you are going to hear. Little is a replication of the original; it\u2019s a wonderful reinterpretation in much the way that Dylan reinterpreted Sinatra.<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of Robbie, his collaboration with <strong>Linda Gail Lewis<\/strong>, <em>Wild! Wild! Wild!<\/em>, is another great one, on record and especially live.<\/p>\n<p>And it was plenty of fun seeing <strong>Mott the Hoople<\/strong> in NYC last spring. Ian Hunter giving Ariel Bender and Morgan Fisher another chance to be in the spotlight and dress up glam. Bender pulled it off and Fisher had moments where he seemed to know where he was. At 64, I was one of the younger members of the crowd, many of whom were glammed up as well, even those with walkers and, I kid you not, in one case a walker and an oxygen tank. Not exactly all the young dudes.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and as long as we are talking about fun concerts, the oldies show with <strong>Freddie Cannon<\/strong>, <strong>Lou Christie<\/strong>, <strong>Bobby Rydell<\/strong>, and <strong>Darlene Love<\/strong> was lots of fun. Even if I didn\u2019t get to hear Darlene sing \u201cChristmas (Baby Please Come Home)\u201d live (apparently November 5 is too early for that); that was rectified this past December.<\/p>\n<p>What would you have written about in the last 3\u00bd years?<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some things I would have commented on during the interregnum since October 2016: I would have continued championing Dylan\u2019s Sinatra period as he released Triplicate.
