O-to-the-M-to-the-G. I’ve been so excited about this trial balloon of an RTH<\/strong> second coming (at Easter time no less!) that I couldn’t pick one from the pile of posts that I was considering to use to say “Hi Again Townsmen!”. Sad that it turns out to be one that just came to light:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Moderator turned me onto Fountains of Wayne<\/strong> years ago and I was hooked from the first song he played me- Radiation Vibe<\/strong> which is also the first song from their first self-titled release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My now 21yo son started learning to play guitar about 8 years ago and I turned him on to FOW<\/strong>. He sang Stacy’s Mom<\/strong> at his 5th grade karaoke graduation celebration. He had to ask the DJ to play it as it wasn’t on the “kids approved” list that his elementary school requested. (The apple doesn’t fall far.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few years later I took him to his first concert- Fountains of Wayne<\/strong> at The Roxy<\/strong>. He loved it. I bought him a t-shirt that he wore years after it fit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He felt that that single experience with his dad effected his life in such a profoundly positive way that, because the shirt no longer fit, he did this-<\/p>\n\n\n

Until today I’ve only teared up at finding out about the death of 2 rockers: Lennon and Strummer. And this one makes 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was just speaking to Mr. Moderator about how the music that we love so much is so entrenched in the formative youth that we first heard it, who we were, what we were going thru, who we wanted to be… And that it is harder to have that kind of deep connection with music that came after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I found it a bit odd that I teared up about the news of Adam Schlesinger<\/strong>. I wasn’t and am not a HUGE fan of Fountains of Wayne<\/strong>. I like them a lot but not as much as I like The Beatles<\/strong> or The Clash<\/strong> but…my son was\/is a fan and I share his passion for rock and roll. And the beat goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just told him about Adam’s death and he paused and said, “it’s weird”…”this is the first celebrity death that I actually care about”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power of rock and roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what’s an RTH<\/strong> post without a bit of trivia. Adam Schlesinger<\/strong> wrote a song that was nominated for both a Gloden Globe<\/strong> award and an Oscar<\/strong>. Do you know what that song was?<\/p>\n\n\n
