Never did, but I watched their documentary, <em>Supersonic<\/em>, a few weeks ago, and have been examining my rock &#8216;n roll fetishes ever since. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I thought their music was boring, but if I don&#8217;t focus on their tension-free songs (god, they could take 3 chords and stretch them like the elastic waistband on my last surviving pair of underwear from the 20th century), I can sense a faint tingle in my rock &#8216;n roll loins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oasis: Supersonic | Official Trailer HD | A24\" width=\"695\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7wZJqUrJyDs?feature=oembed&amp;wmode=opaque\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The stirring is the deep-set sex appeal of my Anglophilia. Some of my rock &#8216;n roll fetishes are rooted in my growing up an Anglophile. Rocking along to Beatles records as a little boy will do that to a grown man. Their lead singer, is it Liam, the one who trims his eyebrows and has the better hair, really puts on that insistent, droning English accent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Oh yeah, baby, sing it like Syd Barrett crossed with John Lennon!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When all cylinders are firing, the sexier Gallagher overcomes his complete lack of stage presence by wearing round specs, like John, to go with his superior hair and Mac-wear. The guy may hunch over the mic with his hands behind his back in an &#8220;I could be doing better things with my time&#8221; way, but his Look was almost always spot on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Let me see how you look when those glasses start to fall down the bridge of your nose. Now push them up. Oh, yeah! Now change into the blue Mac! Wait &#8211; leave on the vaguely military shirt with epaulets!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not a post about Oasis. I only use them as an example. The last thing I would want to see break out in this thread is some odd suggestion that their music is the UK equivalent of the relentless vibe of <strong>Tom Petty<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Full Moon Fever<\/em>. This is a post asking you to share some of your rock fetishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rock &#8216;n roll is an entire genre set up around fetishes, but I want to bore down to your most specific ones. I&#8217;ll give you an example of a slice of broadly appealing psychedelic Anglophilia that contains something so specific that it pushes it over the edge for me. I believe they call it The Money Shot in the porn industry. <em>After the jump&#8230;<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Electric Banana (The Pretty Things) - It&#039;ll Never Be Me\" width=\"695\" height=\"521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fbi4CFY4yTc?feature=oembed&amp;wmode=opaque\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are actually two things that drive me wild in this <strong>Pretty Things<\/strong> song, which the rational part of me knows, as is the case with all Pretty Things songs, is only so interesting as a song itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chugging, bass-driven rhythm, similar to <strong>Deep Purple<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Hush,&#8221; turns me on right out of the gates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Your bass neck is so long!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, as the guitar solo gets underway, 1 minute and 40 seconds in, there are the trademark cascading, harmony fuzz guitars. The Pretty Things mastered the art of delivering on this fetish on their <em>S.F. Sorrow<\/em> album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Oh yeah, I like it when you two fuzz guitars get it on like that!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the chugging bass part, a missed opportunity on the fadeout that would also speak to one of my deepest rock fetishes would have been a nod to the octave bass leaps in <strong>Spencer Davis Group<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Gimme Some Lovin&#8217;.&#8221; If I could legislate such a thing, every artist&#8217;s album would have at least one song that features octave-spanning bass leaps. I&#8217;ll have to pull out <strong>Jimi Hendrix<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Dolly Dagger&#8221; for that specific thrill.
