Let\u2019s resurrect that now with this British Invasion version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What four acts would be on the British Invasion Mount Rushmore? Would anyone argue that <strong>The Beatles<\/strong> are not on it? Or <strong>The Rolling Stones<\/strong>? If you want to, proceed at your own risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah, but what are the other two?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I say <strong>The Kinks<\/strong> have to be number three. I think it can be creditably argued that \u201cYou Really Got Me\u201d alone justifies the selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Kinks - &quot;You Really Got Me&quot; (1966)\" width=\"695\" height=\"521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_QiRXPUElz8?feature=oembed&amp;wmode=opaque\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Add in whatever else you want \u2013 the other early hits, the string of impeccable albums from <em>Face To Face<\/em> up to <em>Lola Versus Powerman &amp; the Moneygoround<\/em> \u2013 and they have to be carved on, although I\u2019m afraid Ray\u2019s gapped teeth could cause sculpting problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what\u2019s the fourth. <strong>The Who<\/strong> were just a little late. <strong>The Animals<\/strong> would bring something very different to the Mount but were they really that good, that impactful, that lasting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And how about the bands with an album\u2019s worth of great pop hits like <strong>The Dave Clark 5<\/strong> or <strong>The Hollies<\/strong> or even <strong>Herman\u2019s Hermits<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope this will be the first of many such threads. Feel free to define your own Mt. Rushmore and get it up here.
