I come before you today with a simple thought experiment \u2014 something to get you scratching your chin for a moment or two, to distract you from the cares of the day.\u00a0So wedge your monocle firmly into your eye socket, pour yourself a dry martini, lean back, and let\u2019s begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what I have in mind: there are songs that common wisdom might lead one to believe are essentially flawless.\u00a0When was the last time, for example, that you heard anybody trash-talking \u201cShe Said, She Said\u201d or \u201cSuperstition\u201d or \u201cAll Down the Line\u201d? I submit, however, that perfection does not exist, and that whatever track we submit to the RTH hive mind, at least one of us can find something wrong with it. And that\u2019s what I want us to do.\u00a0Think of this exercise as our beloved \u201cIf You Can\u2019t Say Anything Nice About\u2026\u201d series, but backwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re going to do this like a game of tag.\u00a0I\u2019ll start by saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Well, I may be nitpicking, but I just can\u2019t stand the way Hendrix sings \u201ctwo riders were approaching\u2026 and the wind begin to howl\u201d in his version of \u201cAll Along the Watchtower.\u201d Would it be too much to ask Jimi to sing \u201cbegins,\u201d or \u201cbegan\u201d? It drives me crazy! Now, \u201cWaterloo Sunset\u201d \u2014 now <em>that\u2019s<\/em> a perfect song!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 and whoever jumps in next shares at least one reason why \u201cWaterloo Sunset\u201d is not at all perfect, starting with the words \u201cWell, I may be nitpicking, but\u2026\u201d, and finishing off their comment with a nod toward the song they believe is without flaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sense?
