It listed the occupant as \u201cBoognish\u201d and had this symbol over the keybox:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4274   aligncenter\" title=\"boognish5av\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/boognish5av.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I\u2019d think most of us could trace this character to the Philly-area jokester band, <strong>Ween<\/strong>. I don\u2019t know too much about these guys but it occurred to me this is band with a lot of pretty well-reviewed releases (on Allmusic, at least) that has never been discussed on RTH. My search sees them named-dropped here twice in the last 3 years. They don\u2019t have a Greatest Hits to start with, so my question to all of you:\u00a0<em>What\u2019s the Deal with Ween? <\/em><!--nextpage--><\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KAecIwt-RvY?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>What I know about Gene and Dean Ween\u2019s life work is \u201cPush the Little Daisies\u201d (Ignore the enlightened commentary on this clip) and the <strong>Spike Jonze<\/strong>-directed, Philly-set clip for \u201cFreedom of \u201876\u201d.<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u_vsJuxYGwg?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>These are from Ween\u2019s 2nd and 3rd CDs and they place them in that novelty, jokey &#8217;90s alternative universe with disposable things like <strong>Harvey Danger<\/strong> and <strong>Dead Eye Dick<\/strong>. I actually watched a live version of \u201cFreedom\u201d and the falsetto singing was pretty good but the guitar playing was below rudimentary. Ween may have had a little more drug humor edge to them since their next album, <em>The Pod<\/em>, showcases music made after inhaling Scotchguard.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4271\" style=\"width: 237px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4271\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4271 \" title=\"ween\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/ween.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"222\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don&#39;t try this at home, kids!<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Things get more interesting with <em>The Mollusk<\/em>.<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6E5m_XtCX3c?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p style=\"text-align: left;\">On \u201cOcean Man\u201d the stoner lyrics are kinda clever and the treated vocals and island sounds make this a parody you can listen to more than once. Even better is their next record, the Beatles-pop <em>White Pepper<\/em> (clever title, boys). \u201cEven if You Don\u2019t\u201d actually passes the test as a straight pop song.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yarfOFdopQ0?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Even the excessive guitar solo here works in it\u2019s own way.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DU91POX33aE?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>More recent Ween records include the rocking, GBV-crossed-with-Dinosaur Jr track \u201cTransdermal Celebration\u201d (cool animation on this one) and the one-and-out joke of \u201cYour Party,\u201d from <em>La Cucharacha<\/em>. David Sanborn on lounge-lizard sax plus old guy references to \u201cthe wife and I\u201d; I get it. On the whole, I\u2019ll take Cee-Lo\u2019s \u201cF* You\u201d over this.<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O0ISF95axZQ?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>I won\u2019t say I am familiar with all of the albums mentioned here, I was just picking through YouTube for a sense of this band. I\u2019d say there is something to be gained from their records and I\u2019ll keep a lookout for them in the remainders bin. What do you say?
