{"id":6163,"date":"2011-03-07T22:34:33","date_gmt":"2011-03-08T02:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/?p=6163"},"modified":"2011-03-07T22:34:33","modified_gmt":"2011-03-08T02:34:33","slug":"the-gay-doors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/the-gay-doors\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gay Doors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While  watching a bit of <em>American Idol<\/em> the other night (not a regular  occurrence in my house, but we do flip by) <strong>Brett Loewenstern<\/strong> did a very,  um,\u00a0interesting<em> c<\/em>over of <strong>The Doors<\/strong>\u2019 \u201cLight My Fire.\u201d (Note: the actual singing begins around the 0:30 mark.)<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D77o6xroGDo?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p>For  the rest of the evening, I kept mulling over other Doors tunes that  could be done gay cabaret style. \u201cPeople Are Strange\u201d and \u201cBackdoor  Man,\u201d obviously. You could reverse the Oedipal drama of the \u201cThe End\u201d  and, although I\u2019m not sure how the rest of the song would work, <strong>The Gay  Doors<\/strong> could go all Freddy Mercury dramatic on the Mr. Mojo Risin part of  \u201cLA Woman.\u201d &#8220;LA Dragqueen,&#8221; anyone?<\/p>\n<p>There  are a few other examples of bands playing covers in an unlikely style.  <strong>Dread Zeppelin<\/strong> and <strong>Lez Zeppelin<\/strong> as well as that group that re-records  classic albums like <em>Dark Side of the Moon<\/em> and <em>Sgt Pepper<\/em> as reggae records. This is not always done as a joke, as in <strong>Seu Jorge<\/strong>\u2019s Brazillian-flavored Bowie songs, featured in <em>The Life Aquatic with Steve Zazou<\/em>. He has more recently done a nice cover of <strong>Michael Jackson<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Rock With You.&#8221;<\/p><iframe class='youtube-player youtuber' type='text\/html' width='425' height='355' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cn-L7FTfGzg?rel=0&amp;fs=1&amp;ap=%252526fmt%253D18' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen frameborder='0'><\/iframe><p><em>Can you think of any  other bands ripe for this treatment?
