{"id":6756,"date":"2011-04-12T22:10:40","date_gmt":"2011-04-13T02:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/?p=6756"},"modified":"2011-04-13T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2011-04-14T00:10:49","slug":"everything-old-is-new-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rocktownhall.com\/blogs\/everything-old-is-new-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Everything Old Is New Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few random observations from today:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0A friend posted a couple videos of<strong> Sir Douglas Quintet<\/strong>. \u00a0I never had heard of this band, and doing some research was amazed that a band that allegedly &#8220;started&#8221; by trying to cash in on the 60&#8217;s British Invasion could ultimately morph into a prime inspiration for Tejano music. \u00a0Although Doug Sahm&#8217;s Texas roots are apparent even when Elvis Costello-like organ is added to the mix, I was impressed with his ability to leap musical genres.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Manohla Dargis&#8217; April 8, 2011 New York Times review of the new stoner movie &#8220;Your Highness&#8221; included this musical reference:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;bare-breasted wild women smeared in white who look as if they stepped off the cover of a classic punk album by the Slits&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but a reference for The Slits in the midst of a NYTimes movie review seems a bit random.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0An <a href=\"http:\/\/pitchfork.com\/features\/articles\/7951-positive-destruction-san-franciscos-new-garage-rock\/\" target=\"_blank\">article on today&#8217;s Pitchfork site, &#8220;Positive Destruction,&#8221;<\/a> posits San Francisco as the new epicenter of garage rock. \u00a0Mr. Royale and I are fans of Ty Segall and recently discovered another local band, Moon Duo. \u00a0 It would be nice for San Francisco to move beyond that &#8220;Summer of &#8217;69&#8221; designation.<\/p>\n<p>Comments?
