Great viewpoint, Big Steve!

It gives me chills to think about the "what if's" had Glen Frey stayed with Seger.

I'm a little surprised at the lengths Petty went to in order to make this production sound like an early Dead album, still the songs are all hitting me lukewarm. I think I might have exhausted my explorations of the musical mind of Tom Petty at this point anyway. As thoroughly derided as FULL MOON FEVER is for its period production, it is the last batch of songs he had that forcefully demanded their right to exist. The songs here sound like an afterthought to me.

Does Seger get Eagle-ized or does Frey become a Man Of The People like Seger?

This reminds me of a topic I want to put together at some point about which band would fare better if a major Rock Trade involving their frontmen happened.

Just a note to say that the Allmanesque twin-lead-guitar part in Bootleg Flyer starts at 2:48. Check it out.

I think Steve Miller might be a better candidate for such a "Back to the 70's" approach.

If I could geek out for just a minute, Petty's guitar collection in the background of that video had my eyes tearing up. How cool would it be to have Petty call you up and ask you to come on over, let's jam at my space, maybe write a few tunes. I've got all the gear and groovy rehearsal space you could ever want. Geez.
