Hippies have been known to dance to anything, as the above clip attests, but they’re not alone in finding steps to music that’s usually not thought of as possessing a “great beat.” What’s the most unlikely dancing you’ve seen on display?

We just got back from our annual trip to Santa Barbara. All kinds of folks in that town during the summer. Yesterday, as we were walking along one of the less touristy beaches, we saw a couple doing what Mr. Royale referred to as “their crazy pagan dance:” the woman was sort of turning and hula-ing, the guy was jumping around and doing handstands. As we got nearer, we noticed she had earbuds in but he was listening to his own inner jams. They looked about our age and were not dread-wearing hippies (the woman even had on a tennis skirt!). Kudos to them for following their own freakiness!

I’d love to know who those bored, confused-looking kids were waiting for. Who was this band opening up for? Can the Internet tell us?

Well, that was easy. Wikipedia says:

“They also opened The Rolling Stones Free Concert at Hyde Park on 5 July 1969.”

Brilliant move by the Stones. After those guys, even that shitty Stones performance must have sounded good.
