BTW, in honor of my loss can you people PLEASE get back to voting for Steppenwolf in the “inner biker” poll? Easy Rider was also my introduction to the wonders of Steppenwolf. This is too much, man. I need to grow a mustache.
Anybody know and like Marc Cohn? I have one song of his, on a tribute-to-Nilsson comp, and I quite like it. But his rock resume (featuring a long list of Hollywood/Martha’s Vineyard music elites who love the dude) scares the hell out of me.
I’ve got to give it to that drummer, cdm: that’s the first time I’ve ever made it through that horrible song!
What’s with the toilet seat hanging from the timbales? (What’s with a 3-piece being able to afford its guitarist the chance to play timbales, for that matter?)
I’ve met the producer of that Harry Nilsson album, Danny Kapilian. When we met I said, “I know your name from…. ” – and I saw him brace himself – “…that Harry Nilsson tribute album.” And he smiled and said, “for that, I must shake your hand,” which he did, then he asked me which was my favorite song on the album. I was thinking the Marc Cohn song (and I really can’t stand him, but he and John Leventhal really did nail that tune – I even prefer it to the original) but I was afraid it wasn’t a cool enough answer. Instead, I answered that I liked Richard Barone’s tune, to which he replied that he liked Marc Cohn’s track. Dammit.
He was a great…man. RIP Gary Coleman.

The good news is that Frank Booth is finally dead. The bad news is we lost crazy Dennis Hopper. Definitely a shotgun from me. That dude was a nut.

Farewell to Dennis Hopper and all that his work in Easy Rider did for my outlook on life:

Sorry Mod, but as good as Steppenwolf are my primary goes to Lemmy & co.
I’ve gotta admit though I was surprised you left out Messers. Gibbons, Hill and Beard – I thought they would be a top contender for the belt.
I see ZZ Top more as the soundtrack for one’s inner 4-wheeler or inner monster truck.
My favorite recent-ish double albums:
Wilco, Being There
Paul Westerberg, Stereo/Mono
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
I realize the latter two are packaged as “two-albums-in-one-set,” but I think they work excellently as single entities.
Best “inner biker” record: Circuit Rider. Made by actual bikers.
One member of this band is the living embodiment of mach shau:

Things really get started at about the one minute mark, and skip to 3:45 to see a particularly spectacular move.

Any insight?

hrrundi,
Isn’t that the guy who did that insipid Walking in Memphis song? That should tell you all you need to know.
Now please provide your thoughts on the drummer in that link that I posted.

Yeah, that’s who I think the guy is. He may be from Philadelphia, too, and I can’t even like him for that reason.
