Drummers! Lately David played a rare hometown show this past weekend. It was outdoor and like any outdoor showm it had its share of uncontrollable elements (rain, power outages, etc.). Whatever. We soldiered on and rocked. We rocked so hard that we got offered a gig at New Daisy Theatre on Beale Street in Memphis.
But, we (again) have found ourselves drummerless. Stupid drummers! How dare we ask them to rehearse and show up for soundchecks! Don’t we know that they can “wing it” and magically wave their amazing percussive fortitude over our songs and make it go?
So, we’re faced with a big gig and we have no drummer. If anybody knows any good rock-type drummers in the Memphis area, please let me know.
Sorry for the venting on you drummers, but it’s always something with you guys…I really love you.
latelydavid, I feel your pain. My girlfriend’s son loved the drums for a few months, and perhaps I had hopes that my curse would be lifted. Not so. The curse of Walter Smith lives on.
Find an oracle, a temple, a holy shrine. Pray.
When that fails, just throw a few bucks at a good drummer you know and hope they show up.
TB, I’m not joking: if you’d like to use the RTH to advertise for a drummer, I can help you set up a classified on the left side of our site. Why don’t you send me some DRUMMER WANTED text offlist (mrmoderator [at] rocktownhall [dot] com) with a link to your band, if you’d like. Thanks.
We’re seriously thinking of using our connection to Ardent to contact Jody Stephens. He might want to jam with us…Thanks for the offer, Mod. We’ve got a few bites from a Craiglist ad and I think we’re gonna line them up and have a good old-fashioned showdown. Maybe Nick Andopolis will show up…
Man, there is a lot going on in this clip from Midnight Special — the keyboards (two–are those, strictly speaking–keytars?), the spaceman boots, the good-looking backup singers/cowbell and tambourine combo in karate outfits, etc. Nice.
They shoot horses, don’t they?

Yeah, I read that this morning and was thinking what did they actually go to see?

Is there anybody out there that has something good to say about Gary Wright’s Dreamweaver?
I switched off that for the umpteenth time from the classic rock station. That song is out; doesn’t matter what’s on the oldies station, it’s safe.
TB, Trust RTH for all of your “musicians wanted” needs. Phil Lesh does!
Hey Al, I can’t offer much on Wright’s “Dream Weaver” but “Love Is Alive” from the same album is awesome.

Drummer update…
We’ve got some buzz from our local Craigslist ad, so we’ll probably be setting up some auditions for next weekend.
In the meantime, we’re giving our original drummer the first right of refusal. If he wants the gig, it’s his to have.
I was really looking forward to Mr. Clean playing with us…
