Hey, why did Johnny take Tommy’s guitar? Who dressed Don? In honor of this evening’s episode of Saturday Night Shut-In, in which Mr. Moderator meditates on the post-peak years of The Everly Brothers, we’re keeping this jam all in the family!

You say you want MORE? Well, be my guest…after the jump!

  1. I’m a bit shocked that “Living Loving Maid” is not kicking “Heartbreaker”‘s ass in the current poll. Not that there’s anything wrong with “Heartbreaker,” but I thought we attracted the cool sort of readers who’d favor the underdog in that dynamic pairing.

  2. I accidentally voted for the wrong one!

Phil Everly looked so much like Malcolm McDowell back then.

  4. That’s generous. Since the Reagan era I can’t shake the thought of Lee Atwater.

  5. STAY TUNED FOR A LANDMARK ANNOUNCEMENT!

Re: the Big Choice Poll: what about Thrifty Music? Not participatory enough?

  7. I was going to put Thrifty Music in the poll if I had any indication that it would one day revive:) I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up. Seriously, I was going to put it in the poll, but it’s more of an author-driven series (like Bullshit On, which was also left off at the last moment) than one of our more open-ended threads.

Also seriously, what’s the deal, man, do we continue to roll with Thrifty Music? I certainly hope so, and personally, as I’ve told you offline, I’d love for you to do it as an episode of Saturday Night Shut-In! Think about it. Do it. Pretty please?

I’ve been thinking about a SNSI podcast centered on my recent Thrifty finds, of which there are many. Just yesterday, I found a 60s garage-pop single on Tuesday Records by a guy who’s listed on side A as “Alan, with musical accompaniment by the Ushers” and on side B as “Alan, with musical accompaniment by the Sound of Darkness.” It’s a hoot — probably some kid and his friends.

  9. Few things would make me happier than to hear this episode! Let me know if you have any questions about putting it together. We can speak offlist. (BTW, I was in your neck of the woods last Friday but with no extra time to see if we could hook up. Hopefully I’ll be down there again soon!)

The Ushers were just about to break when Alan departed the band to join The Sound of Darkness.

I will second the hope for more Thrifty Music, I always enjoy those.

Also, Battle Royale is getting hosed in this poll thanks to all these Last Man Standing mouthbreathers.

  11. I’ve long suspected that Battle Royale threads need their own custom Flash graphic. This confirms that belief.
