“‘Ambient?’ Long live The Power and Glory of Rock!”

OK, that wasn’t all the powerful and glorious, but I bet you’d never seen it before.

  1. I dunno, that was pretty powerful and glorious. I never knew all those musicians had a band together. Those guys were rocking!

  2. Okay, help me out here – I recognise Phil Lynott, I think the pianner player is the guy I’ve seen playing bass in Old Grey Whistle Test video of ‘Head, Hands & Feet’ – Tony Colton? Can’t say for sure if I have the guy or the name right…

Drums and geetar – who dat?

    On guitar: Roy Wood!

  4. YouTube commenters say that Bev Bevan is playing drums. The YouTube page has some interesting info about this band’s genesis. This is what Lynott chose to follow Thin Lizzy up with? (Does anyone know if that Lynott biopic starring the guy from CSI is still happening?)

  5. Roy Wood!

I checked his Wikipedia and found this:

“Wood also made a one-off rock’n’roll medley single with Phil Lynott, Chas Hodges and John Coghlan, credited to The Rockers,”

Chas Hodges IS one of the guys in Head, Hands and Feet. I had the wrong name, but that’s probly the guy…

Mebbe that be John Coghlan then? Wasn’t Bev Bevan in Bonzo Dog Band as well?

I guess that’s Bev Bevan, it’s hard to tell because of the video quality, and the fact his shirt is almost fully buttoned.

I can honestly never get enough of Roy Wood’s roywoodness (and regret not being active for the Boulders discussion). What’s Roy rockin’ in this clip, a Space Highlander outfit? This might rival that Styx video for most gimmicks going on in one performance: Wood as Interstellar Scottish Overlord, Lynott as Pirate, Hodges as Lumberjack and Bevan as Random Wings Band Member.

I love how into it Wood gets at the end, leading into the exuberantly awkward high-five exchange. And then the video skips and that whole part gets replayed.

(Does anyone know if that Lynott biopic starring the guy from CSI is still happening?)

Now there’s a part for Andre Royo!

  7. And then the video skips and that whole part gets replayed.

I think that actually happened, due to Roy Wood’s ability to bend time.

Now there’s a part for Andre Royo!

For those of you who don’t watch The Wire, here’s the proof:

Extra points for originality on that kick-ass band name!

  9. Wasn’t Bev Bevan in Bonzo Dog Band as well?

Nevah! The Bonzos’ drummer was the inimitable Legs Larry Smith.
