Last Man Standing: Monday I’ve Got Friday On My Mind
By cdm on Jun 5, 2009
I'm looking for songs that list the days of the week.
The lyrics don’t have to mention all of the days of the week (although that’s preferable), but they do have to list several days in succession. Lyrics that mention a few particular days as part of a narrative are not sufficient. I’ll also accept songs that list the months of the year.
I’ll start with "Friday On My Mind," by The Easybeats.

"Monday Morning" by Pulp.
"Oh, and you can go out late from Monday till Saturday turns into Sunday
And now we're back here at Monday."

ELO's "Diary of Horace Wimp" - the background singers repeatedly sing the days of the week...except Saturday, with that pesky extra syllable. We're left to assume Horace kills homeless people on Saturday.

ELO's "Diary of Horace Wimp"
I was just listening to that not 10 minutes ago and thought that it is what The Beatles would have sounded like if they had done disco.

I'm still a bit surprised that in the wake of that year where every other commercial and movie trailer had "Mister Blue Sky" in it, nobody ever went deep enough to find Horace Wimp and stick it in a trailer for one of those Judd Apatow crew movies.

Moon Mullican's Seven Nights to Rock, which was covered by Nick Lowe on one of those Cowboy Outfit records Mr. Mod hates, names 'em all:
Monday -- Sister Suzie's ball
Tuesday -- I'm at the union hall
Wednesday -- at the roadhouse inn
Thursday -- I'm at the Lion's Den
Friday -- I'm at the Chatter Box
Saturday and Sunday everybody rocks

"Saturday's Child" by the Monkees take the whole song to go through a week, but each verse mentions at least two days, usually in succession. That counts, right?

"These Are the Days" by Paul Westerberg.
Monday morning came another day to you
Tuesday you dreamed it was wednesday through
And Thursday's child a long way to go
And Friday night knocking on my door

I really want to use that set of public announcement clips with all the days of the week that leads into Armenia City In The Sky on The Who Sell Out. I would guess it's disqualified.

I guess because The Beatles don't specify any of the eight days mentioned in "Eight Days a Week" that it doesn't count, right?
If we're allowed to use months, as cdm stated, then I'm playing Neil Sedaka's "Calendar Girl."
I AM (currently) LAST MAN STANDING!

Sorry Mod but a quick review of 2009-06-03 @ 15:02 reveals that Calendar Girl was already cited (by me).
Latelydavid, I'm not familiar with that song and can't find the lyrics on the net to perform an audit but you appear to be the Last Man Standing!
I thought there would be more calendar songs but that appears to be it. And no, Chicken Soup With Rice does not count.

Damn! I'll keep trying. Meanwhile, can we get a ruling on Hrrundi's "Thursday to Saturday," from "Clubland"? That was a highly original suggestion that should at least receive validation or official rejection. Thanks.

I wasn't familiar with the lyrics to Clubland so I just looked them up. They seem to fall into the category of narrative description so I'm going to rule against them.
The days or months have to be listed in succession.

I guess I should have been more specific. The correct title of the song is "(Thursday) Here's Why I Did Not Go To Work Today." Lyrics link:

Can anyone verify that Black-Eyed Peas' new song runs off the days of the week? I just saw them on Letterman, and among all the gibberish they were spouting I believe they did this...which would make me LAST MAN STANDING!

Wow...You're trying to sneak up on me there, Mod. But I will not give up...
I will save my "ace in the hole" until your Black-Eyed Peas song is confirmed.

I just looked up the lyrics to that BEP song and sure enough, they do list the days of the week. Nice work, Mod.
As an aside, these lyrics are the lamest list of days I've seen so far. They don't even bother to tell us what they're going to do on those days. At least the Clash had the wherewithal to let us know that they had been runnin' before they went through the list.
Your move TB

On You Are the`Quarry Morrissey has a song called I Have Forgiven Jesus with the lyric:
"Monday - humiliation
Tuesday - suffocation
Wednesday - condescension
Thursday - is pathetic
By Friday life has killed me
By Friday life has killed me"
And some people think the guy doesn't have a sense of humor.
