Please file under “Who knew?…Not me!”

I’m not even sure which way to go with this. My 13 year-old  inner-child wants to simply say,

She said taint!  he-he-he.butthead

Mrs. Maudlin  said,

This gives me a much better appreciation for this song in a Shirelles kinda way. AND gives me even less respect for Soft Cell if that’s even possible.

I suppose all that I want to say is I really like this song as performed here. I never really hated it before but…eh. So I’ll guess I’ll leave it at that.

Oh, and she was Marc Bolan’s gal at the time of his death and was behind the wheel of their Morris Minor when they crashed. And I think, like, she played keyboards and sang in T.Rex. Yes? Still…I like this song.

Interesting, very interesting. Good detective work, Sammy!

Maybe this is one of those songs that when mentioned to our British friends, they would just sigh and think, “Duh” (being too polite to say anything such as “You wanker, of course I knew that song.”). Any Brits out there who can weigh in?

BTW, I like the Tainted Love version, especially when it would segue into “Where Did Our Love Go” but this version is more fun. I imagine a roomful of people doing the frugg or something like that .

I knew of this for at least 25 yrs. It was on the Soul Shots series that was put out on Rhino Records back in the late 80s. I still have all of them on cassette. Also, I hate to do the P-N, but the car that was involved in Marc Bolan’s death was a Mini, not a Morris Minor

First, here’s an article from the Hemmings Motor News blog about the various types of the classic Mini:

Second, here’s another Hemmings blog article about a Morris Minor for sale to show what it looks like:

Finally, here’s a picture of the crash scene. “Mini 1275 GT” is on the driver’s side (UK) door:

  4. I also really like the Supreme’s reference in the long Soft Cell version.

  5. I’ve been silent from the Hall for a bit with this and that going on (currentl excuse – being in Italy) but as a long time T. Rex fan and as a fan of Gloria Jones’ Tainted Love from long before Soft Cell, I’ll thrown in a few more tidbits. Although she didn’t write Tainted Love, Gloria Jones was a co-writer on two classic songs, Gladys Knight’s If I Was Your Woman and the Diana Ross-Marvin Gaye duet My Mistake.
