Beard Power? Posted by Mr. Moderator Oct 262008 Bearded! Will it be The Beard or the Different Drum of Joe Maddon and his 5-man infield? 16 Responses to “Beard Power?” Mr. Moderator says: 10/26/2008 at 1:44 am Matt Stairs, Professional Hitter, is on deck! 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/26/2008 at 1:49 am The Beard wins with an assist from “Carlos RU-is,” as Tim McCarver has been working so hard not to say. 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/26/2008 at 1:53 am Bruntlett’s Beard was commanding in that postgame interview. I could see it landing some endorsement deals. 0 High Five hrrundivbakshi says: 10/26/2008 at 8:18 pm The worst! The worst! The worst! (national anthem) Ye GODS! 0 High Five BigSteve says: 10/26/2008 at 8:30 pm Yeah Patti Labelle was like a MadTV parody or something. No space age hairdo — her hair was as flat as her intonation. Of course, sparkly guitar girl yesterday wasn’t much better. She seemed not to know when to go to the V chord, preferring to drone away on the one chord she knew how to play. It was like the Velvet Underground by way of Nash Vegas. 0 High Five dbuskirk says: 10/27/2008 at 12:19 am That was pretty subdued for Patti, I actually thought it was pretty good. 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/27/2008 at 1:31 am I saw Patti live. I thought her anthem was horrible. People all through the crowd were snickering, making American Idol cracks. I’m not joking – regular Philadelphia Phillies fans were saying PEEEE-YEW! With all the talent from Philadelphia, how did Patti LaBelle acquire her status and cred for these moments. On the other hand, the military guy who sang “God Bless America” was AMAZING! He was so manly and square, like he should have been singing through a megaphone and sporting a handlebar moustache and raised collar. The game itself was mind-blowing for me. Walking into the park I thought to myself, “This is why we did drugs!” After Blanton hit the most unlikely of home runs, the mood turned to something less ecstatic and surreal and more relaxed, like a big block party. Howard’s second home run landed 2 rows in front of us. The ball was spinning all over the place and we were all on our hands and knees, looking for it. A woman 2 seats behind me came up with it. The guy right behind me was hoilding a HOWARD! sign with the “o” a bullseye. Very cool. 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/27/2008 at 1:33 am Oh, and it’s funny you compared Patti with a MadTV skit. My friend and I were saying it was like an SCTV skit. 0 High Five alexmagic says: 10/27/2008 at 10:19 am Yes! Not just any SCTV skit, either. This one: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xz3j9_sctv-signoff-star-spangled-banner_fun First thing I thought of when it sounded like she was going to fly off into another song about two lines in. Up tonight, Hall but no Oats. Will that snub come back to haunt the city? 0 High Five Tom MEANS says: 10/27/2008 at 10:29 am Fripp should accompany Hall. 0 High Five hrrundivbakshi says: 10/27/2008 at 9:05 pm First home run of this game: John Oates. A classy, classy anthem. Better than I would have expected from Daryl! 0 High Five hrrundivbakshi says: 10/27/2008 at 9:25 pm Aww, man! In other “sports” news, S.D. “Special Delivery” Jones died! That sucks! I was always fascinated by the peculiar hole in his back. Old-school WWF fans will know what I’m talking about. Along with Moondog Spot and “Iron” Mike Sharpe, he was one of my fave third-stringers of that era. RIP, S.D.! 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/27/2008 at 11:38 pm This is now officially a SAD sports night: WS Game 5 suspended and now the news that S.D. Jones has passed. That S.D. Jones-BoBo Brazil tag-team combo was the sport’s killer third-string tag-team combo. 0 High Five Mr. Moderator says: 10/27/2008 at 11:38 pm And yes, John Oates delivered! 0 High Five alexmagic says: 10/28/2008 at 12:08 am HVB – I’m with you on both the greatness of Canada’s Greatest Athlete, Iron Mike Sharpe, and Oates delivering on the anthem. Went over huge at the bar I was watching. I wonder what happened to Hall? I can’t help but think the incompleteness of Hall and Oates was partly responsible for the game itself being incomplete. 0 High Five BigSteve says: 10/28/2008 at 7:30 am After the anthem the announcer said Oates had flown in from Colorado to fill in for an “under the weather” Hall. 0 High Five Leave a ReplyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
