RTH: What is Free Radio?

AV: Free Radio is a single camera, improvised comedy on VH1, and it tells the story of a fictional radio station’s morning talk show where the celeb guests appear as themselves. Backstory—the legendary morning DJ Rip Rebel has defected to satellite radio (sound familiar?), and no one wants to take his place, so the idiot intern and the weather girl get thrown on the air. The show becomes more popular than ever…hilarity ensues…

RTH: Why should I watch it?

AV: For laughs, silly.

RTH: In the opening of the rough cut you sent to The Back Office here, you guy’s used Blitzkrieg Bop. But in the final cut, no Ramones. Did they want sexual favors or free model glue or what?

AV: Worse, they wanted MONEY. Money we didn’t have in our budget. Instead, we somehow finagled Billy Boy on Poison to let us use “Dirty Bomb” for the theme song.

RTH: I know you did a scene with Kiefer Sutherland. Did he have B.O.? Seems like he might.

AV: Kiefer smells like I want to make out with him. There is nothing foul about him— disposition, scent, or otherwise.

RTH: I’m guessing a basic cable budget isn’t going to support licensing classic rock tunes so what are you guys using for music?

AV: We have a bunch of excellent indie rock bands’ songs, and I hope it helps get them onto the radar of the buyin’ public a little bit more.

RTH: Finally, we play a little game now and then called Dugout Chatter, in which we pose sometimes silly questions to poll readers’ gut responses. We like to have our guests answer such questions. Here goes. Your quick, gut reactions or quick answers are all we ask.

The Kiefer bit with the headphones is great. I hate headphones. Nice scoop, Sammy! Thanks to Anna for checking in. I’m looking forward to checking this out.

Ony one disappointment regarding Anna’s Dugout Chatter: she copped out on the Paul Schaffer question. Of course it matters! She came through on the package question without hesitation, so we’ll cut her some slack.
