Huh?

Huh?

It might be argued that this discussion will come down to a rehash of rock’s most iconic logos, but I believe there are certain kick drum heads that are iconic in their context as kick drum heads, not just vehicles for the display of a cool logo. When you think of Ringo Starr, for instance, is the image complete with the primitive kick drum head pictured above, or do you think of this:

Thanks, Mr. Mod for putting this up & giving me the chance to kick things off. I would start off w/this:

I was first thinking of the Monterrey bass drum head, but I didn’t realize that had a different logo.

  4. I love the audacity of Roger Taylor’s: http://www.queenconcerts.com/inc/instruments/1980_game/1980_drums.jpg

Rob from Beretta 76 has his kick drum done the same way. It’s cool.

  5. Yes! Is Rob’s drum head a direct nod to Taylor’s? I never made the connection.

  6. Bonham’s head is definitely iconic.

I do like that shot of Alan White’s drums. I never paid attention to his set-up. He plays a lot of drums, but he seems to be playing a pretty small bass drum. Also, what’s that finish on the kit? It looks cool.

Is there a drummer in the house?

  7. Yes, but Moonie had to replace his bass drum way more than the average skin thumper.

Can’t talk about drummers without mentioning Neil Peart. I immediately thought about this iconic set which he used for a few years.

I’m curious what y’all think of the photo. Too much? or Too cool?

How about Meg White’s red and white swirled candy drum?

  10. Definitely, that was one diskojoe talked about with me offline!
