It's all too much.

Normally I keep off-list messages of thanks and praise to myself, tucked away in a folder on my hard drive that I revisit every few years, when times are especially tough and Townspeople are getting on my case about an unpopular opinion. I received such an off-list message minutes ago, however, as the clock struck midnight. Probably unbeknownst to the Townsperson who sent me this note, it is my birthday. Because it’s my birthday, I feel the right to share this note with you. Surely it reflects positively on each of you, but especially myself. This most meaningful note follows the jump. Thank you, Townsperson who will remain anonymous.

I have been lurking on Rock Town Hall for the last 3 years. Following a recent comment you made regarding your thoughts on the rock film Almost Famous I decided it was time I wrote you. I could I came to tell you how moved I was. We can all pretend to be cynical and scheming, but when we’re faced with…purity and innocence the cynical mask drops off and all that is best in us awakens. I wanted to thank you; you did me good.

The sender? Lou Reizner, producer of “All This and WWII”

And because I know you’ll be curious: Roy Wood’s contributions to this debacle:

And for those of you who are doubting that such a film could ever have actually existed, I present the trailer for your edification:

  4. Well, you guessed right! That movie must have been part of a sting operation.

I remember copies of that album clogging the remainder bins back in the day.

Happy Birthday to you, Mr. Mod. While some of the things you say are a bit of a head-scratcher (such as calling Forever Changes “bullfighting music”), it’s fun to read RTH & put in my own half-baked opinions at times.

  6. Happy Funk 49 Birthday! All the best to the man with the 2nd most valid opinions in the Hall. Crack open a Mr Pip, crank up Kokomo, and enjoy. Thank you for making the Hall a place of entertainment, learning, and when necessary Rock healing.

(I’m confused on the direction this thread took. You laid down what seems like a real comment, but HVB seems to have come back with some snark. How is “All This” connected to what you posted?)

I won’t let off the pressure until Mod *finally* posts his thoughts on the Sons Of Champlin.

Oh, and Hippy Barf-day, Mod. Thanks for creating, launching and managing this wonderful mess. When I think of all the constructive things I could have done with the time and energy I’ve wasted here… it makes me happy!

  9. Happy Birthday Mod!

Happy birthday, and thanks for working so hard keeping the playground neat and up to date.

    Happy birthday Mr M!

Mod, I’m receiving a lot of offlist support that I should finish trimming down my list of 30 Great Posts by Mr. Moderator before I officially wish you a happy birthday.

  13. Happy birthday, Mod! Here’s the long version: http://youtu.be/vtkZd6W_yLE

  14. That’s the one I listened to on the drive in!

I can’t relate to this thread, because I always approach life and music with purity and innocence, but I wish the Mod all the best on his special day.

  16. Let’s hear it for the boy!

    Happy Birthday Mr. Mod!

  17. Very nice — a big birthday week in rock with Mr. Mod and Sir Paul!

  18. Happy Birthday Mr. Mod!

Now let us never speak of that movie again. Is that a good enough birthday gift ?

  20. HBD, Moddy! Yer a good egg, you are!

  21. Happy Birthday. You’ll unfortunately be noticing that they come faster and faster.
