I thought of this when The Spinners’ “Games People Play” video was posted.
When the song title popped up, I immediately thought of Joe South‘s song, “Games People Play”, and what a better song that is.
Can you name pairs of songs that share the same title (but aren’t covers of the same song)? Which of the pair is the better song?
I can also think of one title that’s actually a triplet, but I’m sitting on it as my coup de grace death blow.
What’s your Holy Trinity of Rock ‘n Roll? In our epic and ongoing Last Man Standing we learned that The Replacements make up one third of Townsman cdm‘s Holy Trinity.
The concept of the Holy Trinity of Rock was first coined by Epluribusgergely, which he used to describe Hrrundivbakshi‘s gold standard of Holy Trinities: Prince, ZZ Top, and ELO. As cdm fills us in on the last two thirds of his Holy Trinity, let’s hear from the rest of you: what three bands best represent all that rock ‘n roll means to you.
You wouldn’t think it would be that difficult reconstruct – two smokin’, rockin’ sisters fronting a solid hard rock band – but to date the closest the rock world has come to reconstructing the dynamic of Heart is The Breeders. Although Kim and Kelly Deal sisters were kinda kute, they were no Wilson sisters, and the other two Breeders don’t round out as hot a lineup as the other chicks did in Heart.

While watching the video that kicks off our recent Amon Düül thread, I noticed singer/guitarist Johanes Weinzirl furiously chewing gum in a haughty, defiant manner reminiscent of this guy:
About 20 seconds into the intro for “All You Need Is Love” you first see John Lennon working his gum into shape. From that point on Lennon’s gum chewing becomes as important to this live performance as his specs, his headphone adjustments, and his omniscient head nods.
Don’t think The Rutles didn’t pay attention to this detail.
