Three copies of this DVD have been provided by our pals over at Universal Music to give away. The task is simple: Name (link to if possible) an album COVER that includes a naked bum on it. Male, female…this contest swings both ways. We’ve installed a PlugIn called “Comment Timeout” and  have set the comments to close at a time only known to us here in The Back Office.  As this contest is pretty much automated the Guest Judge will be…

My cat.

He's not too happy about it.

RUSH LEAKS VIDEO PERFORMANCE OF “YYZ” FROM ‘2112 & MOVING PICTURES: CLASSIC ALBUMS” DVD/BLU-RAY, PACKAGE HITS STORES THIS WEEK

Eagle Rock Entertainment is releasing Rush: 2112 & Moving Pictures Classic Albums simultaneously on DVD and Blu-Ray. The epic program carries us through the creation of the progressive rock milestones via brand new interviews, demonstrations, archive videos, and use of the original multi-track tapes. Besides new interviews with Rush’s bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer Neil Peart, original producer Terry Brown, is also featured in the documentary, talking about the recording process of both records. Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and acclaimed Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke are among the other guests included in the film. 112 minutes in total, this DVD digs even deeper with 50 minutes of bonus material that was not included in the recent VH1 Classic broadcast.

In the clip below, Lee, Lifeson, and Peart, hammer away at their very own prog-rock instrumental classic, “YYZ.” The song was originally included on 1981’s Moving Pictures album. The song was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rock Instrumental category in 1982. The performance is included on Rush: 2112 & Moving Pictures Classic Albums.

Does the back cover of John and Yoko’s Two Virgins count?

    http://www.streamingoldies.com/content-images/twim/TwoVirgins.jpg

  2. ladymisskirroyale

Just clarifying: we’re talking human bums here?

  3. ladymisskirroyale

And just to let you all know about the dangers out there: I thought the new Scissor Sisters album had a naked bum. But (!) alas, the R. Mapplethorpe photo of a dancer is clothed. While googling the image, I was directed to a site that offered “alternative” images of the album: naked hirsute males for the lovers of bears everywhere. Bearotic!

  4. ladymisskirroyale

    Yes: “Going For the One.”

New Age Urban Squirrels. “Five Virgins” http://www.thesquirrels.com/poplust/virgins.jpeg

A partial Young Fresh Fellows side project. You won’t find more naked ass than this!

  6. cherguevara

Do singles count? Queen’s Bicycle Race/Fat Bottomed Girls, though I can only find the airbrushed version:
    http://www.batmanrecords.com.au/images/queen.jpg

  7. Best buns on an album cover?

  8. I would think so. Do any other animals even have what we would think of as “buns?”

  9. I think we can include picture-sleeve singles.

  10. Yoko’s buns could have used more yeast, but sure!

  11. Keith Moon’s “Two Sides of the Moon” – http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/22102006.jpg

    Wasn’t there a Ministry one?

…Yes! Dark Side Of The Spoon

    http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Spoon-Ministry/dp/B00000J7J9

    Never heard it, though…

  13. Whoops, I just re-read the rules, and buns must be naked. Sorry, General.

  14. Does it have to be on the front cover? Joni Mitchell “for the Roses” is a classic.

  15. The Ohio Players had some great covers of all female body parts, but this one shows side bum:

The original cover for Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Electric_ladyland_nude_front_and_back.jpg

    I am in awe.

  17. bostonhistorian

    Oh, right. Totally NSFW.

  18. Thanks for posting this one, bostonhistorian. I was going to submit it yesterday, but I wasn’t seeing bum. Guess my eyes were focused on all those beautiful faces. Upon further review, the woman front and center is showing enough bum to qualify. The one on the left presents some side-bum.

  19. bostonhistorian

So many naked women, so little bum. I was actually a little surprised by that. I guess we can figure that Jimi was a breast man.

  20. The Back Office

Off to a stellar start. Fan(ny)tastic! Some clarification and comments:

    Must be human.
Sorry to be so graphic but we must be able to see crack. Side bums don’t cut it.
Back covers will count for now but my cat reserves the right to disqualify them at any time. (Finicky cats.)
NAKED bums. If we get into pantied bums or Lover Boy pleather bums it will be a nightmare.
The winners will be the last 3 valid entries made prior to the random comment closing.

That Nugent cover out Spinal Taps Spinal Tap. I looked for a good 7 minutes at that Hendrix cover and didn’t see any bum. 45 minutes later I looked again for about 9 minutes and still didn’t see any. I’ll keep looking though.

  21. I thought about that one as well but I thought it was the gatefold. Oh well, how about the original cover for Smell the Glove.

  22. There’s bum dead center. The blond in the front. Give yourself another 30 minutes or so. It takes a while to stand out in that crowd.

  23. Yeah, and crack is visible!

By ‘must be human’ does a representational human bum count? If so I’m Last Man Standing.

  25. The Back Office

No. HUMAN not humanoid or human-like. My cat even says that drawings or any kind of representations are not allowed. My cat is deploying a pre-emptive Pince Nez by declaring that he does not want to hear any c’est ci n’est pas une pipe arguments either. My cat has spoken.

  26. cherguevara

I thought I was out of this race, but I just ran across the cover art for the new Kanye West album:

    http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/kanyecov452tw.jpg

  27. The Back Office’s cat is going to toss that one out on the grounds that it’s representational AND that it’s mythical set of buns.

  28. cherguevara

I’m fine with that ruling, but don’t anybody tell Kanye. He wants those Rush DVDs! “Spirit of Radio” is his favorite.

  29. Picture sleeve single for The Smith’s “Hand in Glove:”

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RX8ifw0c6VY/SAIpnch_LeI/AAAAAAAAA5A/3nQbS2BD3UQ/s400/handinglove.jpg

When can I expect my DVD so I can prog-rock out?

  30. Am I completely insane or is Rush’s own “Hemispheres” off-limits for some reason?
    http://deliriosduvidosos.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/rush_hemispheres1.jpg

  31. bostonhistorian

I think the c’est ci une pipe contest would be handled by the Front Office.

  32. cherguevara

And I thought, as horrid as it might be, I wondered if GG Allin has a suitable cover for this challenge. And Google turned up some raunchy stuff, including this cover for a band called “Bad Trip,” though I have no idea who they are. The cover really makes me want to hear their music though. Not.

    http://i42.tinypic.com/bg2sdy.jpg

  33. I feel confident there must be unspoken bonus points for an album that shows the artist’s very own bum.

  34. cherguevara

P.S. I never knew much about Allin – I knew enough to know I didn’t want to know more, I guess. But this is fascinating:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GG_Allin

  35. The Back Office

Personal releases, especially if mocked up since this contest started, do not qualify gregg. Just set the web cam down and slowly back away.

  36. ladymisskirroyale

Best of the Average White Band. Classy use of the font.

  37. ladymisskirroyale

And the cover of Sigur Ros’s something something Icelandic Spilum Endalaust:

    http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/art.php

  38. I was talking about Joni Mitchell’s bum in my earlier submission. I suppose Cherguevarra’s “Too Virgins” fall into the same slot.

My own bum is very personal to me. However, I do appreciate your concern.

  39. I like the Family Affair aspect of that album cover.

  40. ladymisskirroyale

Yes, wasn’t there some talk about Buffy and Jody…

  41. I’m having no luck finding proof of this, but I believe there’s a double-album by a frequently laughed at ’60s hippie-blues band that features some Artist Bum on the back or inside gatefold cover. I may have to give E. Pluribus Gergely a call this afternoon…

  42. bostonhistorian

Please tell me it’s the Paul Butterfield Blues Band…

  43. Not that I know of, bostonhistorian, but I do believe a Butterfield sex tape made at the time of The Last Waltz is circulating if you look hard enough.

  44. bostonhistorian

I asked a few friends about this, and this is what they came up with:

    http://newkingdomsayshi.com/2010/06/21/naked-time-album-art-tracklisting/

As a bonus, the youtube video on this page has naked butt too…

  45. Nice work by your friends. You are currently among the Last Men (and Women) Standing!

BTW, how bummed do you think hrrundivbakshi is that Prince didn’t show a little crack on his Lovesexy album cover?

  46. misterioso

Look, I know it doesn’t qualify, unless the back cover continues the motif on the front, but nonetheless, if only for honorable mention, let’s give it up for Pablo Cruise’s Lifeline cover.
    http://pablocruise.com/mediaonly/04_Pablo_Cruise_Lifeline_Color.jpg

  47. Wait, has this thread morphed into some sort of naked band photo competition? If so:
