Sounds of the Hall in roughly 33 1/3 minutes!

On tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Shut-In a slightly perturbed* Mr. Moderator returns from 2 glorious weeks visiting friends along the California coast. The hope is he will work through what ails him during the show. Blame it on his return to East Coast humidity? Why not. Nevertheless, the man carries on with some scratchy vinyl and a pocketful of insights.

As a special treat, tonight’s episode kicks off with a Mystery Date! The rules for play follow. The Townsperson who posts the best analysis of our Mystery Date within the constricts of the game will win a KISS Hanging T-Shirt Air Freshener! Contest runs through Wednesday, August 8. Check out how to play…after the jump!

The Hall awaits rock-related reports from the London Olympics. Let’s hope we hear from our own Happiness Stan soon. Meanwhile, feel free to file your own reports surrounding this and other events.

I was listening to Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City” earlier today, while driving from Laguna to San Francisco, primarily through the kind of amazing California nowhere land that I-5 takes drivers. Hearing Stevie repeatedly pronounce the song’s key word as Cit-Ay I got to thinking of that horrible Journey song that pronounces the word the same way, and the possibility for a Last Man Standing. Then I realized there are probably a dozen other words that are only pronounced a certain way in song, a way that no one would ever pronounce the words in everyday speech. Then I realized that you can help budding rock singers identify and learn the proper rock pronunciation of these words. Go!

I’m a big fan of the original Planet of the Apes and other works of art that ponder humankind’s ape-like nature. Who among us will be last man standing as we cite rock ‘n roll songs that specifically compare humans to apes or other simian ancestors? As always, keep your entries to one song per comment.

I’ll start with The Kinks’ “Apeman.”
