I’m looking for songs that list the days of the week.

The lyrics don’t have to mention all of the days of the week (although that’s preferable), but they do have to list several days in succession. Lyrics that mention a few particular days as part of a narrative are not sufficient. I’ll also accept songs that list the months of the year.

I’ll start with “Friday On My Mind,” by The Easybeats.

The past month of May will go down as one of Rock Town Hall’s most fierce Comment of the Month battles. After days of deliberation among dozens of choice comments, such as this one, which was called to The Main Stage; this “Chess”-worthy snippy one; and this snazzy one, which makes use of high-brow references in the service of slamming an RTH pariah, the judges finally determined to award all who commented on this Battle Royale thread, in which Townspeople were asked to describe rock’s cross-promotional prime-time tv efforts they would like to have seen. The results of this query were better than I could have imagined. You can’t imagine the amount of sniffs we’ve gotten from Hollywood producers looking to buy the rights to your excellent flights of fancy. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to cut you in on any deals we might land. Thanks and congratulations to each and every one of our winners!

How many instances of real musicians/bands appearing on a prime-time television shows (variety shows excluded) primarily as an excuse to promote a new song can we recall? Pure acting gigs by musicians do not count, but we’ll accept acting/performing appearances as characters other than themselves, provided that their performing characters are not too different than their usual performing selves. For instance, there’s an episode of Columbo in which Johnny Cash acts and performs as a character, Tommy Brown. That would count because, as you can see in the following clip from that episode, Tommy Brown has just enough of a resemblance to Johnny Cash.

Maria/Somewhere

I found this show tune track on the B-side of a Thrifty Music single from a Mystery Date-caliber artist, and was so impressed I tracked down the album in CD form. It’s not consistently good, but I’m glad I own it. So: this is both my entry into the Show Tune Hall Last Man Standing battle, and my Mystery Date challenge to you all. Who is this guy? For extra credit, tell me who produced the tune. Hint: he shows up in the RTH menu bar with some frequency.

I look forward to your responses.

Name a rocker who has recorded a show tune.

It must be a genuine rocker covering a bona fide show tune. For instance, Donny Osmond recording “Joseph’s Amazing Technicolor Rain Coat” doesn’t count.

Once again, I think this will be a short one because I can only think of two instances, but you guys never cease to amaze me.

I’ll lead off with Tom Waits doing “Somewhere” from West Side Story.

I know this is highly subjective, but let’s be honest and see if we can’t reach agreement on a few of our suggestions. I’ll start by suggesting King Crimson. I can’t say there’s a single King Crimson vocal melody or lyric that I’d miss if it had never existed. The whole point of listening to King Crimson, for me, is tolerating the vocal sections so that I can dig the music.

What band with vocals do you wish was strictly instrumental? Per Last Man Standing protocol, one suggestion at a time, please.
